| Last night the Public Theater and The Metropolitan Opera gave a lecture/performance package on Falstaff at Hunter College -- the character in Henry IV plays, the character in The Merry Wives of Windsor, and the character in Verdi's Falstaff. All superb masterpieces. A Shakespeare scholar and an Opera/Verdi scholar narrated and explained. Jay O'Saunders and Mark Delavan played Falstaff and Helena Dix (wonderful .. making her Met debut) was the singing Mrs Ford. They paired the scenes so that first the scholars, then the actors, then the singers presented remarkable segments from these great works. OMG. What a TREAT. |
