The kind of musical that was a staple of Off Broadway when it existed. It's small and sweet and despite a somewhat disappointing Act Two, the overall effect is nonetheless pleasing. Baldwin and Pinkham are consummate pros and, to the extent that the show persuades, it's largely because of them. There was an opportunity here for this material to become more daring and strange as it proceeded but Kitt and Logan opt to remain on the slickly sentimental surface they've polished to a sheen. Accordingly, the music is the sort of minimalist, rolling pop that's fashionable these days. Even as the score mostly runs together, it's never less than competent and there are a few standout songs namely, "I'll Save the Girl" and "It's Not Like in the Movies." In all, SUPERHERO is modestly satisfying. For Jason Moore, who most recently directed THE CHER SHOW, it's a face saver.
