New York, NY - The Michael Jackson Estate and Columbia Live Stage announced today that the new musical Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough will now have its world premiere on Broadway when it opens in summer of next year. Its previously announced pre-Broadway engagement in Chicago has been cancelled due to scheduling difficulties brought about by the recent Actors Equity strike. The new musical will feature a book by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage and a score made up of some of the best-loved, top-selling songs in recording history. Tony Award winner Christopher Wheeldon will direct and choreograph.

The producers also announced that the musical's First National Tour will premiere in Chicago.

A developmental work session will take place in New York City this fall.

I won't hold my breath... that HBO documentary "Leaving Neverland" is going to sour many folks on Michael Jackson.

Is this to avoid competing with Tina?

Chicago dates end dec 1 which gives plenty of time for spring opening.

No, they are afraid of blowback from the HBO documentary. Likely this is a prelude to full cancellation. The film is quite explicit and leaves no room for doubt about the veracity of the accusers.

Why put this out? Adds fuel to the fire. Why not just cancel after March 4?

Equity's lab strike is a convenient, timely scapegoat.

There is so much wrong with this picture that I don know where to begin. So I won't.

Perhaps someone can explain to me why the estate would have been subject to the strike in the first place.

ETA: I just saw the Equity press release, which adds to one bewilderment without directly explaining the other (not that it needed to).

My thoughts exactly, but of course, we shall see.

or do they not make musicals about someone who at one point was victimized? Btw, she has a great song list she made famous and a very interesting life, too, to say the least. It seems folks are going down the list and doing a musical about nearly every top pop/rock act.

And you are correct. I found that out at the talk back after "Clueless" which is why they could only get the rights of songs that were one hit wonders.

Floyd Mutrux. (Million Dollar Quartet, Baby It's You Exclamation Point, etc.) I seem to remember that he's got lists and lists of potential shows that he'd like to churn out.

This could also be called "WHERE THE BOYS ARE". Actually so could the Michael Jackson one... but I don't think they'd go for it.

I'm definitely with you there, PlayWiz ! It's crossed my mind, too. I grew up with her music, am a life-long fan, and still listen to her. I've seen her several times in concert. She was incredibly versatile, but seldom given credit for it. I believe she's living in Florida, working with servicemen, I believe. Can't believe she was 80 in December. Thanks for giving her a nice shout-out ! PS - I kissed her in Coney Island !!!

If you have the bucks, you can buy the epic box sets from BEAR FAMILY records; She is one of the best selling female vocalists of all time. She made albums in german Italian , Yiddish(I Think; My favorite is a CD with about 20 of her songs that she sings in Japanese

When Michel LeGrand died, I went to Youtube to hear "I Wll Wait For You," from "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg." Connie Francis' rendition of the song is lovely.
