Truly embarrassing on all counts, except for some of the supporting cast.
Miscast leads (among others), 1-D characters, a nonsensical and agonizing book, and -- worst of all -- bland, forgettable music. I got chills when I heard the first few chords, which evoke Spring Awakening, but it was truly all downhill from there. At least DISCO's music was enjoyable to listen to, and its cast was mostly strong. Even the lighting and sound design for ALICE was a mess; how often is that the case at this level of theatre?
Also, the manic staging would make an OSHA inspector cringe. So many moments seemed unnecessarily dangerous, to little visual effect. |
