| It starts in a few days. I'd love to get a sense of whether or not it's a must see (other than because it's a new Guare play, which of course is reason enough... but that was the case for the new Stoppard that was just at the Mitzi and frankly if I had just read it, I'd have been fine). Has anyone read it or seen it before (i'm not sure if it's ever been done, and I'm too lazy to look it up), or heard insider word on it? |

| It's a revised version (I don't know how significantly) of his play ARE YOU THERE, MCPHEE?, which premiered at McCarter in 2012. (NM) | |

| I did, and I wrote a review of it. Let's hope that he has spent the last seven years plotting extensive revisions..... | |

| Thanks for the tip - Found a review that mentions a nearly 3 hour running time of the 2012 show, with the phrase "Less would be more". Many shows are compromising and are using a 7:30pm start time these days, which I think is the perfect compromise for those who prefer 7pm, versus those who prefer 8pm. (Laura Pels, Signature, Westside, ART, etc). Guess Lincoln Center is one of the "old fashioned" theaters who still insist on 8pm, even for a 3 hour show, and a theater that is way way out of the way (unless you happen to live in Harlem, the Bronx or the UWS). http://www.towntopics.com/wordpress/2012/05/16/the-world-premiere-of-are-you-there-mcphee-opens-at-mccarter-with-plays-within-plays-and-a-wildly-absurdist-memory-journey/ |

| Really? 66th Street? 3 subway stops from Times Square, two for 50th, 1 from Columbus Circle (easier to walk 5 minutes). Closer than the Union Square to mid town .... Bushwick is 'way out of the way', but LC? Nah. Mainstream. | |

| Tell that to the throngs of nervous theatergoers at 66th St at 11pm, waiting for a delayed #1 train, trying to catch a LIRR or NJ Transit train at 34th St. If you just miss your suburban train, it's often an hour wait at that hour for the next one. If you're in Times Square , it's a quick 10-15 minute walk to Penn Station. Not so, when you're all the way up at Lincoln Center. It's disruptive to the audience when people start getting up at 10:30pm, then 10:35pm, etc. You know those are the people nervous about catching their trains. Perhaps Lincoln Center will "get a clue" and realize it's disruptive to the audience to start at 8pm. | |

| I saw Marys Seacole at Lincoln Center on Sunday night. The curtain was at 7 p.m., ended at 8:40, and I managed to get from 65th Street to Penn Station in time to catch the 9:01 train out of the city. It couldn't have been more convenient. | |

| Um, I do not go to Lincoln Center (LCT, Met opera, NYCB) unless I know for sure that I can drive in. So usually that means weekends. Weeknights are too hard because I can't count on getting to Grand Central on time so I can get to bed at a reasonable hour (unless I skip an act of the opera, which I have done before). Broadway is no problem at all -- if I hustle I can get to GC in about 10 minutes from most Broadway theaters. | |

| No, he or she isn't. Otherwise, all those other people wouldn't be getting up before the plays ended to catch their trains. And I've done it, too. | |

| Twice recently, I've been caught in a situation where I've spent the last few minutes of a show with one eye on my watch, wondering if I'm going to make the train. One was at Springsteen on Broadway, which went about half an hour beyond the advertised time. The other was the recent They're Playing Our Song, where I only had a vague idea of when it would be over by the nature of the evening. In both cases, I just made the train. It wasn't the best way to spend the end of either show, and the distraction definitely hurt my enjoyment of the last part of each show. That being said, I don't think it's the producers' fault that I chose to arrange my transportation that way. It's not their responsibility to make sure I catch my train. Also, They're Playing Our Song had a scheduled start of 7:30, and Bob Greenblatt started giving the intro around 7:35. Springsteen on Broadway was scheduled to start at 8 and started around 8:02. So they did their part in starting the show close to the scheduled time. And, overall, they both were exceptional nights in the theater that I feel fortunate to have experienced. |

| I mean, I love Lincoln Center, because I can walk, but I can walk from Times Square, too. It's just longer. It's not really out of the way. | |
