Merrily, Merrily

We aught up to this on Saturday. Thought the production shone some light into some new corners of the piece.

Sondheim always says he prefers actors who can sing to singers who can act - I think he got his wish.

Liked the new scene interpolated from the non musical "Merrily" gives Frank a few new chance to explain himself.

Still dont care a rap about Gussie - never liked "Growing up" no matter how they place it.

Never say "Franklyn Shepard Inc" done better.

Not perfect - not such thing as a perfect "Merrily" but this one excited and moved me and i was very happy to have seen it

I saw it this afternoon, and I thought it was the best of four productions of Merrily I’ve seen. I, too, was very moved by it. I usually agree wth Jesse Green, and I left the show trying to figure out what his problem was. All the performances seemed very authentic to me. A heartfelt production that I’d highly recommend.

We were there Saturday evening. Going by the mixed reviews, and the pan in the NYT, I expected less than I might have given how much I adored Fiasco's Into the Woods. I should have trusted this marvelous company's fresh take- it was a delight. I saw Lin Manuel Miranda play Charley in Encores, but last night's Franklin Shepard Inc was the best! I loved the staging, the costume changes, the essence of the characters brought to life. It grabbed my heart and brought a new appreciation of the work. Well done again, Fiasco!

Thank you for helping me articulate why this production worked for me. Mary seemed so real...particularly in the scene where she sings to charley in the cafe...her performance clarified and anchored the central relationships for me.
