Donen made his Broadway debut as a dancer in ''Pal Joey'' in 1940, followed by ''Best Foot Forward.''
But does anyone remember him directing a short-lived stage adaptation of ''The Red Shoes'' (1993), which ran for about 50 performances?
It starred Steve Barton (who took over from Roger Rees in previews), plus Leslie Browne and Hugh Panaro. With songs by Jule Styne.
I also wonder if Donen ever saw Twyla Tharp's 1985 Broadway adaptation of ''Singin' in the Rain'' and what he thought of it. |
