As mentioned by others, the play takes a sharp turn in the last 10 minutes or so.

I keep thinking that I've missed something critical about Carol and what/who she represents in her fight against Diane/Dionysus. I understand why the character is so threatened by Diane, but given the way it's staged and how large her performance gets, did I miss a deeper part of her characterization? Is she standing in for another god, or aspect of society beyond her single character?

I feel like an idiot for not getting this, but this is a safe place to ask :-D

Many thanks for any insights.

In that moment, her character is representative of the entirety of mankind.

Hurricane Diane relies on Greek play structure including a Greek chorus and a Deus Ex Machina ending. Yes, another god – a Deus Ex Machina plot device where a seemingly unsolvable problem is suddenly and abruptly resolved by an unexpected and seemingly unlikely occurrence. In my mind, this still leaves unanswered questions.

Thanks, Theatre-Goer...so you don't think it was a specific god? WIth my patchy memory of mythology, I thought it could be Hera, who certainly had no love lost for Dionysus. But I wasn't sure if there was a specific reference to her that I missed.
