I went to a screening last week that showed them back to back – original followed by parody – and I highly recommend watching them this way if you have the time. What makes the Documentary Now episode so great is not the song parodies (some of those lyrics are cringeworthy) but the ways in which it captures the nuances and textures of Pennebaker's original. (Additionally, it has at least one nod to Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened.)
