I remember seeing Anything Goes with LuPone the final Saturday matinee before opening. And the audience reaction throughout was barely warm, and much overheard conversation after it ended, was not good. Then it opened to raves, I saw it again two weeks after opening (I personally loved it!) and the audience could not be more enthusiastic. With Carrie, it was the exact opposite. Saw it three times in previews and the audiences went wild. Saw it again the Friday night after the morning reviews, and many people left during intermission.
