The Newest Posts option is there (mostly) for people who regularly read all posts, or at least make all the posts "read"/blue. Then when they come in, they can check/read the top threads, then click on "Newest Posts" to see if something has been posted in an older thread, without scrolling down to check.
Even I don't use it as the sole method of reading posts here, but it does help older posts get noticed - and, yes, people use it to read old posts, but most are still hesitant to contribute/reply to those older threads. |
