Superbly written account/astute appraisal -- and you answered all my questions.

And damn, Emily Skinner is swell idea for Charlotte.

My only quibble: I kinda like "Saturday"*

*I sometimes confuse it, oddly enough -- or not -- with a Saturday song in "The Tap Dance Kid." I know, I know, nothing in common.

Same problem as the book: He's a bore and she's nasty. And agreed: Mother is not blowsy enough.

I'd like to hear the songs out of context. In context they're jarring and breezy. I'd like someone to take another stab at the material. LaChiusa maybe, or, in another decade, Sondheim.
