Baldwin and Creel were such a critical component of the "Dolly" success, it's unfair to have her participation reductively characterized as Green did. Yes, it's a star vehicle for a woman named Dolly. But the production proved it's really a show about the lives that intersect in one vivid day. When Peters took over, the Irene-Dolly relationship had a special vibe that made them feel like true peers, as businesswomen and otherwise. I thought Irene became even more valuable to the "Dolly" storytelling, and needless to say, Baldwin was the strongest I've seen. And I've seen stellar Irene Molloys.
