| That "Waiting for Godot" was presented at the Mitzi Newhouse instead of the Beaumont, so there weren't enough tickets for members. There was a lottery for members; you had to drop off your entry at some lawyer's office to enter (I kid you not). I won the opportunity to buy a ticket, and it was .... ok. Steve Martin was very good indeed, Robin Williams didn't have too many opportunities to do his shtick so he didn't make too much of an impression, the rest of the cast were all very well-known, and yet, I had seen better productions of the play in regional theater, so probably that lies at the feet of director Mike Nichols not being up to par. It was a very starry audience though -- I recall seeing Phil Donahue and Marlo Thomas, Terri Garr, among others attending. |
