The lyrics to that song, which correspond closely to Shakespeare's text, have been rewritten.
The word "woman" is no longer in the title. It's now a bland plea for courtesy and respect.
The wink was never in the published libretto, to the best of my knowledge. It was a directorial choice.
But the song doesn't need a wink in this production. Kate doesn't put her hand beneath Petruchio's foot.
Also, he doesn't spank her, even though she complains about her rear hurting after the "spanking" scene.
Mostly, she's the one who punches and slaps him, a lot, throughout.
It feels apologetic.
