I'm fairly young, so I didn't grow up during the height of Jackson's fame and musical influence. I was born and raised during the years following his abuse allegations. My first associations with Michael Jackson were of pedophilia and child abuse. It wasn't until he died that I even realized that he was still a respected figure in many ways.
I haven't seen the documentary yet, but from what I gather it just provides a more specific account of what was already public knowledge. From my perspective, this musical seemed like a ridiculous venture from the beginning, given the recent Me Too movement and all that. But I guess for the general public it takes a new piece of visual media to remind people of what they already knew (or maybe chose to forget). |
