| Does anyone know what happened to the actress Diana Davila? She was in Two Gentleman of Verona on Bway in the 70s (w Raul Julia), and also a few movies. She was crazy talented, and beautiful to boot. Wondering why she stopped performing. | |

| Ive been asking about her on this board and elsewhere forever. She was charming and vivacious in an almost "kittenish" kind of way. Im referring to her in Verona. I have always looked forward to seeing her on Broadway again. The damage that John Simon has done to individual performers and to Broadway overall is inestimable. I saw him on a "Theater Talk" where he talked about his love for beautiful women. Really? Thats the ranting of a homophobic gay man if Ive ever heard it. |

| I saw Odyssey (before it became Home Sweet Homer) in Los Angeles and remember liking her performance. I also liked Yul and Joan and the set. I don't remember that much about the show, as I was young. But I do remember one song - the lyrics and the melody of the first stanza - "How Could I Dare to Dream." | |

| I think it might have had something to do with John Simon's negative reviews of her work. He really had it in for her for some reason. | |

| Its rare that googling brings up next to nothing on MS Davila. I did read that she joined the company of TWO GENTS a week before opening, going straight into a preview - in her first musical - without much or an rehearsal with the company. In 2005, in accepting an award, Stockard Channing gave a shout out to Ms Davila, who she understudied in TWO GENTS. | |

| Let us not forget that Ms Davila went on to a featured role in Home, Sweet Homer. I saw her in Two Gents and the 15 year old shy boy that I was....went back stage as I wanted to meet her. She was lovely. She introduced me to her three co-stars and sat me down for a very nice conversation. Aside from a small role in a Woody Allen film.... I've no idea as to what she went on to do after HSH.....admittedly that could have put anyone off a life in the theater. |

| My recollection is that Carla Pinza played Julia in the Delacorte production of "Two Gents." For whatever reason, she wasn't asked to repeat her role on Broadway (although the other three leads were) and was replaced by Latina singer La Lupe. La Lupe was fired late in rehearsals. I heard her singing was amazing but that her English speaking was often indecipherable. In comes Diana Davila, the complete opposite of La Lupe. La Lupe was a firebrand and Diana was merely a candle in the wind (to borrow a phrase about another Diana). She was sweet but forgettable. | |

| Forgettable to you maybe. I saw the show - my second in a Broadway house when I was in single digits and nearly 50 years old, I still remember her. My brother was so smitten he arranged to interview her for our grammar school newspaper. The OCR captures much of what made her indelible to me. Beguiling. | |

| I didn't find her forgettable at all; I thought she was delightful, and very funny. But John Simon did have it in for her. He wasn't a big fan of the show at any rate, but he made a special point of skewering Davila. All the critics raved about Jonelle Allen, but I thought it was Raul Julia and Davila who made that show go. | |
