| I have noticed that more "stand by" comps seem to be offered these days where you don't have a guarantee of entry, they hand out tickets half an hour before the show. Has anyone tried this? Do you line up in the order you arrived in order to wait for tickets and also presumably the papering service give you your admin fee back if you don't get in? I am in two minds here, it means you get offered tickets for show you might not otherwise but you are using up part of your night (and maybe travelling a way to get there) maybe just to be told they sold all the seats and go away. Is this treating us like cattle or offering a chance to see a show they wouldn't usually paper? |

| Most of the paper sites charge a fee per ticket reserved, do you get those back if you're not seated? | |

| In my experience at the Roundabout, those people on the standby line are subscribers who've had to reschedule their tickets. | |

| As I said elsewhere, I don't think they are standby; I think they are general admission. And I think the reason for doing it is to "dress" the audience in a simple way, rather than with a bunch of re-seating. Hence the reason people get super-good seats this way, whereas the other approach relegates these folks to the worst seats, and leaves wide gapes in the audience. |

| Roundabout has done this for a long time at the Pels. They give you a number in order of your coming and then right a curtain they just take you in and put you in seats. I dont know that anyone gets left out. They do this so they can fill empty seats from the front to the back, rather than assigning all of these in the back and then having to move people to dress the house. | |

| That's right (but not just at the Pels, I don't think - I got subscriber GA tickets on a reschedule at Studio 54 at least once). The original poster seems to be talking about something else - standby tickets offered by papering organizations. |

| I have done this at the Pels several times and always ended up in great seats. I think it is guaranteed that you'll get in, although not guaranteed where that will be. But I don't think that they give you a number without being confident that you'll be seated. | |

| I've seen people lining up at the Pels for these seats right before show time and wondered how it works. Are the tickets for the seats they are assigned priced like the rush tickets that Rounabout offers when the box office opens at 12:00 noon? | |

| MTC has done standby at CC for years, but I think RTC Pels' tickets are General Admission but not standby. Who are the theatres doing this to make it a new trend? | |

| This past weekend, I received my first comp offer from a colleague that was offering a stand by ticket rather than a guaranteed seat. I didn't take the offer, as it would have meant trekking out to Pershing Signature. I wasn't aware that the papering services had also started offering tickets this way. |

| ...at least here. Both The Old Globe and La Jolla Playhouse run standby lines, at least on opening night. Both organizations invite their donors to opening nights, and I imagine that not all donors show. Curtain times are often held as much as 15 minutes on opening night while those from the standby line are seated. Bill, in San Diego |

| Years ago at a Roundabout production my friend and I arrived late with TKTS tickets and we were standing near the front aisle of the theater looking up at how far away our seats were and bemoaning the fact when an usher rushed up to us and said "Come with me" and seated us in prime front center seats. We were completely flabbergasted and had no idea what had happened or why. Only after seeing a few more Roundabout shows did I realize we had been mistaken for subscribers who had rescheduled. | |

| Second Stage does this as well. That’s why there’s always a bunch of people hanging out in the cafe right at curtain. They make them wait there and then all get in a line to fill gaps from the front to the back. | |

| For (some) sold out performances, 2nd Stage sells you a ticket that guarantees you will see the show. They have you hang out in the café, and right before the show begins, they try to seat you if there are available spots. If none are available, you stand in back of the last row. I did this procedure for Dear Evan Hansen back on 5/21/16. I ended up sitting in the first row -- a good deal for me; however, some of the others had to stand. | |
