There's nothing to celebrate about that film. Barbra herself never mentions it.

I celebrate it. The best golden age MGM musical not actually made by MGM (but with Roger Edens, Gene Kelly, etc... working on it for 20th Century Fox).
The sublime production design, perhaps the best orchestrations on any musical film ever, Streisand's towering singing of "Before the Parade Passes By".... plus a "Best Picture" Oscar nominee at the time. And maybe more tellingly, a film that has not gone out of print since it was one of the first VHS videotapes issued at the dawn of the home video era (through dvd, blu-ray, and now streaming.). A film generously quoted in the beloved Disney/Pixar "Wall-E." As moderator Ryan Murphy told Barbra at their Paley Center evening recently, he celebrates Christmas every year with a screening of "Hello Dolly"! I celebrate it too!

On my second trip to Hollywood in 1976, I ventured over to Century City hoping to catch a glimpse of the Twentieth Century Fox Studio lot
I remember walking by the Shubert Theatre with posters up for the upcoming first national tour of A CHORUS LINE.

Much to my delight the Old New York Street set from "Hello,Dolly" was still in tact and in plain view from the street.
I snapped one pic using Kodachrome film (this of course was pre-digital when you had to shoot sparingly)

Your rave for the movie has made me want to go out and purchase the blu-ray to revist.
Steven, how would you feel if it was remade, and who would you cast and pick as a director ?

How about Barbra Streisand behind the camera with Lady Gaga as Dolly Gallagher Levi ?
