Memorial Day
Posted by: SUBRCCS 03:42 pm EDT 03/10/19

Is there an easy way to find out which shows will have a performance on Monday, May 27 (Memorial Day). Will it be the same as the current Monday night schedule? Thanks.

Last year and the year before, only The Play That Goes Wrong adjusted to perform on Memorial Day (and then was dark on Tuesday).

All of the shows with regular Monday performances stuck to their normal schedules.

Phantom, Chicago and Waitress are the current Monday shows, but the Waitress shifts to Tue–Sun starting Memorial Day. (Right now there are a handful of new shows doing Mondays just until they open.)

I went on newyorktheatreguide.com and clicked on shows in May (you have to click separately for B’way & Off B’way), then clicked on various show’s main page to see if they have Monday performances (you have to scroll down the page for this info), then clicked on Buy Tickets to see available dates. Chicago lists a Memorial Day performance (several others didn’t) and probably more do but I stopped looking when I found the first one. It’s a bit labor intensive, but the information seems to be there.

Short of checking the shows' respective ticketing sites, I can't think of any 'easy way'.

Thanks. I was hoping there might be something easier than that.

...of performance schedules during holiday weeks, but often not until we are closer to the dates of those holidays than we are now.

I don't think of Memorial Day as being a big theatergoing weekend. If anything, it seems easier to get tickets that weekend than on neighboring weekends. I think a lot of New Yorkers go out of town. I don't think that a lot of shows would have an extra show on Monday night (or at least, not a lot of the newer, less tourist-oriented ones).
