Shubert Deadheads
Posted by: colin 09:28 pm EDT 03/10/19

Now that the Shubert has a long term hit on its hands, the management needs to consider hiring some people to handle the throngs.
Tonight was a mess. They seem to have hired deadheads a step above homeless. Not only didn't they know the difference between
ticket-buyer and ticket holding lines, but they contradicted each other constantly and couldn't deal with the pressure of all those people.
We are not talking rocket science here. We are also dealing with high paying patrons. They deserve to be handled with something approaching professionalism and just clear-headedness.

I agree ! The security people at the theaters are horrible! They are rude and disrespectful. Its not about how much we paid for the tickets. They are un-trained and seemingly unsupervised. I dont think yelling at people on line at the theater is right in any capacity. They come across as bullies and thugs. (they ARE bullies and thugs). They are as bad as the TSA at the airports!

The Shubert Organization hire notoriously rude and clueless "security" staff who could care less and probably have no idea about how much the audience pays for their tickets. They've been especially bad for several years, and reached the pinnacle of stupidity during "The Front Page" at the Broadhurst. I've actually stood by, while en route to another show, and I've watched in amazement at how badly they treat theatre-goers trying to enter various Shubert theaters before curtain, as if herding cattle.

At first glance at the subject line, I thought the Shubert Org was going to book a GRATEFUL DEAD Juke Box Musical (stranger things have happened)
Shubert Alley would be the ideal place for "deadheads" to gather.

Sorry you had this experience. I dont work for the SHuberts, but have had the pleasure of doing several shows in Shubert houses, and have good relationships with the security guys who worked those shows. As I walk up and down the Broadway streets, I always stop and chat with them, and they're great.

I've also had some great experiences with IATSE folk on my shows. Which doesnt wipe out the memory of the IATSE guy at either the Music Box or the Wilson - memory fails me. I picked up my tickets for an evening show, left the box office, and turned West towards 8th avenue.
Right as I was passing the stage door it flew open, banging hard into me. It was a stage hand going out to get a bite or whatever. He looked at me - scowled - and said 'There;s a door here. Watch where you're going'

I reported this incident to the house manager, and described the jacket the guy was wearing - the HM knew immediately who its was - rolled his eyes - and said he'd let the GMs know.

THere are always bad apples.

It was the same at BE MORE CHILL on Thursday. Two thugs, each monitoring a line, who had no idea that these patrons paid hundreds of dollars for tickets and deserved to be treated with respect. Even the TSA goons at airports seem to understand this.

I don’t think it really matters what amount patrons paid for their tickets. The important thing is they’re “patrons” - aka customers - and they derserve “customer service”... which I believe includes common courtesy.

you may be right on the substance (although I have not personally experienced a problem) but what you say about the homeless is offensive and unnecessary and I hope you'll reconsider and retract it.

I feel no need to modify or retract my perceptions. These heaps of vermin and imbecility are the same I see sprawled all over the subways, buses
and waiting rooms. Even worse---these talk and have become self-righteous bullies. They are a New York Plague.
