Had the great pleasure of seeing Audra McDonald in concert this past Saturday. She said it was the first concert date she had done in several months. She’s incorporated some new material since I last saw her about four years ago, and performed several songs from her recent live album, Sing Happy. The audience ate it up, especially her mashup of of “Carefully Taught”/”Children Will Listen”, plus “Climb Ev’ry Mountain”, and “I Could Have Danced All Night”. She also did some of her standard material, including “Stars and the Moon” and “When Did I Fall in Love?”
She had several charming and funny stories about her children, including her two year old, who apparently is not a fan of her mom’s singing. “Mommy, stop louding!” is the child’s reaction when Mom starts to warble.
Unquestionably one of the preeminent actor/singers of our time.
