|Whether you want to see a revival of The Music Man or not, one must admit that even discounting the financial reasons for choosing Jackman, Hugh Jackman as Harold Hill is an excellent casting pick. He has the talent and the charisma to make it work. I will do my best to get tickets for this. My hope is that as I cannot spend for premium tickets that my paying 'full' price will at least get me a seat that is not obstructed view. A genuine concern. As much as I look forward to seeing Jackman in this I must admit that The Music Man is not one of my favourite musicals. Great score. Some great parts. However, there is just something unpleasant about the work that leaves me uncomfortable. The play wants me to root for the con man to get the girl and, sort of, cheat the town.
A plea to Mr. Rudin. I don't know if Marion has been cast.....I might have missed the notice.....just because Kelli O'Hara can sing the score rather beautifully, I don't believe that she is right for the role. Laura Osnes. Jessie Mueller. Each are obvious picks. Each has the voice for the role and the acting abilities to not be overshadowed by Mr. Jackman. Of course, as Mr. Jackman will be the vehicle selling the tickets, perhaps a less familiar name for Marion would be a chance worth taking.
To repeat: Though The Music Man is not a favourite....Jackman as HIll would still be a performance to look forward to.
