I think it's pretty clear on one viewing that Frank isn't nearly as talented as either of his two friends think, which makes the show a puzzle for me: what's the tragedy in a middling talent finding a way to make money from his limited output? It's not as if he had the chance to be a true artist and abandoned it for fame and fortune. Instead, a guy who wrote mediocre musicals is now making mediocre films. Good for him.
