The cast is great. I appreciated that each of them went way out there comedically, and then more surprisingly, emotionally. I saw the first preview and the fact that they were all listening so hard to one another — probably just to get the lines right — made for a extraordinary experience. Especially on Nathan’s part, as I sometimes feel like he is so focused on getting his laughs that his primary relationship onstage is with the audience, rather than with his fellow actors.
As for the play itself, it’s all over the place, but I assume that will settle down. I would imagine the time between when Andrea Martin was injured and the first preview was spent mainly on getting the two women up to speed, rather than working on the play itself.
