I think it was among the best seasons, particularly for plays, in a long, long time, and the Tony Awards recognizing so many of the plays helped reinforce that. (How common is it for the four acting awards to go to actors from four different plays?)
Choir Boy came off well with their performance, and I suspect it will fuel significant interest in regional productions going forward. Heidi Shreck and Celia Kenan Bolger both spoke beautifully about their shows, which are already selling extraordinarily well and have both planned tours.
Because it is yet another record season for Broadway profits and attendance, we can only assume that means producers are seeing that supporting creative, original, and unconventional drama on Broadway can and should be a vital part of the equation.
