And of course there's also some commentary about the heat during the show itself. ("Oh, this heat." "You know Baltimore...")

I think there are plenty of big production numbers in musicals that don't make any literal sense - but we get the spirit of the moment and somehow suspend disbelief. One of my favorite examples is "Lullaby Of Broadway." Convincing Peggy to stay in the show - AND to take on the seemingly impossible task of replacing the star in a mere few hours time - because NYC's nightlife is way better than it is in Allentown? Really? Makes zero sense. But we eat it up, don't we? ;-)
