I will be curious to hear how the logistics of this will be handled, considering that most theatres don't have the space to accommodate such a thing. You've got to assume that every single audience member has a phone with them, so there must be a plan to stop and frisk or use metal detectors on every patron. The wait to get a phone back at the end of the night could be as long as the show itself.

It's a great idea, in theory, but I just don't see how most Broadway theatres could adopt this in reality. A theatre like the Minskoff, which has a large lobby and that dedicated pass through could do it, if the Nederlanders wanted to hire the extra staff to make it possible, but other theatres would likely have to set up a security perimeter on the sidewalk and have some kind of tent outside the theatre to house all the phones during the performance. On a theatre-heavy block like 45th Street, between Times Square and 8th Avenue, it might be more efficient to close the street entirely to traffic and do some kind of general security checkpoint at either end with some kind of tent or something to house all the phones.
