I think we old-fashioned polite theatergoers need to continue to "say something" at least when the behavior just gets absolutely crazy. Otherwise, where will this end?
I recently sat quietly through two granola bar unwrappings, three tic-tac servings, and some nuts from a zip-loc bag. However when my neighbor pulled out a whole ORANGE and spread out a tissue over her knees prior to peeling it, I leaned over and said softly "No, just no. You cannot peel an orange in the fourth row of a Broadway theater." She mumbled "I'm being quiet" and I reminded her of the three tic-tac servings! She WAS quiet for the rest of the show. |
