Yes, I think so. A short jingle used to brand an item of company (the 3 notes of "By Mennen" or the 5-note scale of "J-E-LL-O"), or, to keep things more theatrical, that factory whistle sound in Sweeney...or something like the 2-note beginning to the "Jaws" theme, or the "Psycho" string stings, etc, that we instantly recognize not just for what they were written for, but for their dramatic nature in general. or, say, the opening phrase of Beethoven's 5th. |
