You bring up a very important point -- when a director takes your script and says "I'm just going to delete all your stage directions" do not let them do it!! it is important the stage directions the playwright writes remain in the script for future productions. Similarly, if a director asks for permission to submit YOUR work with THEIR stage directions for copyright, do not let them do it.
