I agree with you - yet it's also true that we often say dumb (and sometimes off-topic) things to people in moments of distress. So even if the subject of the line seems unrelated to the moment, it does ring as very human to do that.
It's also a marked contrast to the end of Act I, where Anybodys tries to get Tony to escape then as well, but he at least attempts to go with her that time. But that time, he was running from danger, this time he's purposely running into danger. It seems to me that even if this had been anybody other than Anybodys (no pun intended, I swear), he might have said something equally hurtful to them in an attempt to get them to go away. |
