No. You just have to get permission for what you are doing, and if you know about stage variation issues going in, normally you'd raise the subject before the license is granted. If it is a play that's done often and handled by one of the licensing agencies or an agent, there may well be standing adjustments to deal with known issues of this sort. Or a playwright might not want their play done on your configuration. A lot of plays of course do not have stage directions so specific that they would need to be adjusted, but some do.

It's not ridiculous: if you want to borrow my lawnmower, it is also not ridiculous to expect you to ask me before you reposition the grass chute.
