Earlier curtains (7-7:30) have become so normalized of late that it's hard to remember a time when they weren't at least part of the equation. In reality, they were only introduced with any real regularity around 2003, when producers conjectured that a 7 p.m. start time would be more enticing for midweek theatergoers.
