| "But you didn’t say 'I didn’t like the (what you ate) the day I ate there.' You implied it was a fact that all their food is terrible." Agreed. Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion of the food at Sardi's or anywhere else, but "the food is terrible" is a very blunt, flip and unhelpful comment. Whenever people say that about a restaurant, I always wonder exactly what they mean. If they mean that their meal was undercooked or overcooked, or if the ingredients weren't fresh, or if there were some other major flaws in the meal, I would say "the food is terrible" is a justified comment. But if it's just a question of not liking the way their tomato sauce is spiced, or something like that, then I think the phrasing could be a lot better. For the record, I have had a wonderful overall experience every time I've gone to Sardi's because of the ambience, the decor, the crowd, AND the food. The place is an institution and an all-too-rare memento of New York theater history, and I would hate for anyone to be turned off of the place just because someone claims "the food is terrible." (P.S. If that were true, I highly doubt the place would have survived all these years, not for just its location and its history.) |
