I'm sure they're banking on selling it as a must-see cultural prestige event, where everyone who wants to see "THE thing" they are meant to see in order to claim they care about theater or modern cultural politics will buy a ticket whether they like it or not. And whether they like the play or think it's good they will say how important it is and how much people need to see it to make up their own mind, or to start the conversations the play opens up.

I'm not saying this is good or bad, but I assume it's exactly the kind of strategy they are banking, perhaps rightfully, on to sell the amount of/high priced tickets they need.
