It's especially odd to me because Schreck does not have a listed understudy in the Playbill, and I'm guessing it's because she doesn't actually have one. My understanding is that Equity insists on an understudy unless the performer is irreplaceable, either by being a star (Schreck is extremely talented, but not a star in that sense) or by being so integral that she is not replaceable.
So the producers are saying she's irreplaceable and they don't need to pay for an understudy but that she's replaceable for a national tour. |
