I finally saw Ferryman also with this cast a couple of weeks back. I love the play; it’s truly a rare great one.
You have a point regarding the accents. I didn't have quite the "pronounced" experience you did with them, but the accents were a weak point that led me to wonder what difference the original cast might have made.
The ending was big and brash, to be sure, but it felt deeply satisfying to me. As in, this was the (proper) end that the story led to in order to speak its truth; which I took to be something like: so long as we go on living our lives in the vitriol and hatred of past failures, we won't live at all in any meaningful sense; the god-awful truth is that even the priest joins us in hell when we construct our worlds solely around the evil in it.
