| Did anyone go to the Jimmy Awards tonight, or watch the livestream? I started watching just about at intermission so I only got to see the finalists, and as usual they were amazing. I did want to get this group's opinion though... the girl who won sang "I'm Here" from The Color Purple. She was great, BUT she did not belt the high notes until the last one, she went to air voice... and I kept thinking, did she pick the wrong song? Am I right that you should be able to belt those notes if you do that song, or is that unrealistic? Would just really appreciate any thoughts from the experts. But that said, it's such an inspiring evening of young talent - for those who may not know, it's the national high school musical theater awards. I love watching it and am so grateful they livestream it. | |

| She is amazing. There was a murmur in the house when the song title was announced, raising expectations. She killed it and rec'd a standing O. Well deserved. | |

| I watched on Facebook Live. You missed the best part which is the opening number. Also the first act medleys are more fun than the second act solos. The second act drags and the evening loses steam. Not sure what you're referring to with Ekele. She sang great. Building an arc of a song and singing it musically is better than "belting" it throughout. There's no such thing as "air voice." | |
