| 40 years ago today, GOT TU GO DISCO opened at the Minskoff Theater. It starred Irene Cara (who had previously starred in Via Galactica) and Patrick Jude (who would go on to star in Marlowe). Sadly, the show closed 5 days later after only 8 total performances. Was anyone lucky enough to see this show during its brief run? Would love to hear your thoughts and some stories about why it failed. | |

| Hardly--that's a whole lot of information about Jerry Brandt's shenanigans followed by maybe two paragraphs about Got Tu Go Disco, which was in flux at the time. Seth, hangry |

| "I believe it lasted long enough to get a capsule review in The New Yorker that read in toto: "Not Tu Go Ever." For the record, Got Tu Go Disco had been closed for a week when "No got to go, ever" appeared in The New Yorker's Goings On About Town (Plays and Musicals) column. |

| I was the production attorney for that show. It was an interesting experience. I was lucky enough to see it several times. Be happy to talk about it to anyone interested. | |

| I had two friends involved in it, both of whom have far more impressive Broadway credits to their name although both of them used to include it in their Playbill bios. One was a dancer (who also happens to be a superb singer) and the other was one of the several choreographers who worked on it. Neither of them spoke much about it, and always with rueful detachment. My dancer friend said the "producers and creatives" (he finger-signed air-quotes) basically ran around with their heads up their butts, and in rehearsal the cast realized very quickly that the show was a steaming pile of crap. He kind of used the experience as a template for recognizing when a show he or others were involved in was not going to turn out well. | |

| The music is dreadful. It was a musical produced by the doorman from Studio 54. He thought all his friends and connections would help make the show a hit. But without any good music nobody was going to put their neck on the line. There is a produced disco version of the title song. That should tell you everything you need to know. A tuneless disco song. I believe Peter Filichia saw it and wrote about it once. |

| "It was a musical produced by the doorman from Studio 54. " Marc Benecke (said doorman) played himself (Marc) in the musical. He did not produce it. |
