How is the conclusion of the film version of FUNNY GIRL more satisfying than the stage production? Is it because one of Styne's best ballads ("The Music That Makes Me Dance") was replaced by Brice's signature song "My Man" in the movie? Other than reprising "Don't Rain On My Parade" on stage, I can't recall any other changes that actually improved the book's ending in its transition to film. Guess I might have to buy the book.

I've never really thought about it before, but perhaps it's because the film ends with Brice using her personal life as a source for her art. The corresponding moment in the show comes earlier. I'm not saying that I agree, but I can see why he might feel that way (if that is his point in the book, which I haven't read).
