| Yes, what is called the overture on the OBCR and the OLCR of Bye Bye Birdie was the entr'acte on Broadway. If Suskin is correct, it then became the overture in all later productions (by which I think he means starting with the North American tours and the London production, so the OLCR is correct in calling it the overture). The Mack and Mabel cast-recording overture was expanded from the entr'acte. It contains the original entr'acte, but goes on the past the end of that, which sort of faded out as the second-act action began. |
