Clearly if the poster wanted off broadway suggestions, it would be asked (hey, I’ve seen it all on broadway, any offbroadway must sees?). I know people hate the broadway only snobbery, but I find the “you should consider offbroadway as new an interesting” is just as snobbish.

I get this in San Fran. I state I was in ny and list a few of the shows a local might have heard of. I get pissed when the response is “do you see local theater?” And then I state a few shows and get a blank stare. Then I ask what they saw locally and it is NOTHING. So their local statement was an attempt to shame me in only seeing ny and not a true interest in the topic. I usually end the conversation or move on to movies or books—usually with the same results. No wonder I’m single.

... not everyone who comes to NY is familiar with the off-Broadway scene, which rarely advertises beyond the Metro NY area. Hell, it's not even that unusual for people in the tri-state area to complain about having missed a chance to get tickets for hot OB shows (The Lehman Trilogy and Fleabag spring to mind).
