Clearly if the poster wanted off broadway suggestions, it would be asked (hey, I’ve seen it all on broadway, any offbroadway must sees?). I know people hate the broadway only snobbery, but I find the “you should consider offbroadway as new an interesting” is just as snobbish.
I get this in San Fran. I state I was in ny and list a few of the shows a local might have heard of. I get pissed when the response is “do you see local theater?” And then I state a few shows and get a blank stare. Then I ask what they saw locally and it is NOTHING. So their local statement was an attempt to shame me in only seeing ny and not a true interest in the topic. I usually end the conversation or move on to movies or books—usually with the same results. No wonder I’m single. |
