Was a thread on Broadwayworld.com. Someone mentioned that Streep's singing was reminiscent of Murphy's vocals from the Central Park staging, and that basically snowballed into the idea that Murphy actually dubbed Streep's singing in the film. It is true that Murphy sat in for Streep during one of the early table reads of the script, and if I had to surmise anything it would be that Streep being the extraordinary mimic that she is, intentionally or not, patterned her vocals on the tapes she heard of Murphy performing the part. But as others have mentioned, there have been many reports of people working on the film who were present during Streep's recording sessions for INTO THE WOODS who described what they heard as 'jaw dropping.' It's nice to see Murphy speaking up to quell the rumour. She is a class act.
