| I remember how outraged a friend of mine became when Mr. Brantley in a review let out something specific about a production that ruins the effect in a play for future audiences, in that case, that the set flies apart at the start of Signature’s Curse of the Starving Class (accompanied by a picture). Well, read his review of Working in which he ruins a rather wonderful moment at the end the current version of Working that very pleasantly added tales from City Center employees — at the very end of the show, a curtain rises revealing that the set as a facade of City Center. What’s most frustrating, in the next to last paragraph, he gives praise to this touch without revealing the exact effect . Then he adds two sentences that give the surprise away. I can only be happy that he is not someone with whom I attend theatre. I can only imagine what he would whisper in my ear as the production progresses. |
