| Thank you Sergius for the tip about STONEWALL. It was everything you said. Moving, shattering at times, funny and sad, and in the end hopeful. I felt like I was watching my youth on stage - the evocation of the refuge that were the Village bars in the late 60's, the sense of freedom there. The libretto was just about perfect in structuring the three chapters of the piece and the staging and direction were superb, especially in the riot section giving one a real sense of the initial terror and the swelling of rebellion. One more performance tonight, the anniversary of the Stonewall rebellion. Maybe the high priced benefit tickets will be released at affordable prices. And I hope this gets more performances in the future. A real feather in the cap of City Opera. |
