| No, of course I don't think Lonely Room is supposed to be funny. That doesn't mean Poor Jud Is Dead isn't supposed to be funny. Just like you have the comic Porter scene after the murder of Duncan in Macbeth, a musical can have comic and serious numbers one after the other. And I don't think the authors intended the play to be about a sacrificial victim destroyed by a psychotic stud. If the director really intended that to be the point, he had to flush a lot of the show down the toilet in order to get there. |
