Agreed. But I've always thought it's interesting that, AFTER the song, there is a moment when Curly seems to be trying to reason with Jud and trying to talk him into changing his lifestyle and joining the community, rather than being a misanthrope. These are the lines as they appear in the movie script, which I found online, but I think they're exactly the same as the show version:

"How did you get to be the way you are anyhow? Sittin' in here in this filthy hole. Why don't you do something healthy once in a while, 'stead of stayin' shut up here, a-crawlin' and festerin'?"
