Yes, there was an orchestra in the pit for “Diana.” I presume that it will be a bit larger for Broadway.
The Old Globe is opening its fall/winter season next month with a musical version of “Almost Famous.” Given that it’s a music about rock ‘n roll, I’m not sure how the (jukebox) accompaniment is going to go. But, it will feature a fairly large cast.
The Playhouse is closing its season with “Fly,” a new musical version of Peter Pan. I doubt that one will be a small production.
